Heather Haythornthwaite is inspired by overlooked histories, places and artefacts.

She trained at Bath Academy and specialised in Visual Communication. Her influences include her tutor and concrete poet, John Furnival, who encouraged her to use type, image and meaning freely in her work. She will draw and photograph as research for new work as well as listen to the news and what seems to be swirling through the media.

Frequently the outcome is a print : linocuts and etchings are methods she uses to create monoprints, or multi-layered images. She will collect material occasionally collage or layer it up . More recently she has been making hybrid prints and monoprints. She occasionally screen prints or uses woodletter in her work. As well as working in Rochester she is involved in Artichoke Print, Brixton.

Heather also runs occasional outreach courses in schools , studios and for art groups in Kent and SE London.
