The Last Dream of my Soul – The Dickens 150 Print Open Call

26 June - 25 September

The Last Dream of my Soul – The Dickens 150 Print Open Call

This long-awaited show brings together the beautiful and varied work of 50 printmakers from all over the UK. The exhibition explores death in Dickens’ life and novels, and his long association with Medway, delving into the Victorian obsession with mourning etiquette and includes 100 new prints created especially for the show alongside unseen Victorian funerary treasures including costume and jewellery and a full set of Edwin Drood book illustration prints kindly loaned from the Guildhall Museum collection.

Amateur and professional printmakers have employed a wide range of techniques to create Dickens themed prints for the show including letterpress, intaglio, etching, linocuts, mono and screenprints. Artists have also created printed textiles and ceramics inspired by the same themes.

The works on show also include cover designs for a free limited-edition re-issue ofThe Mystery of Edwin Droodpublished to accompany the exhibition and available free to gallery visitors.
